PANOX is the trade name for oxidized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber — also known as carbon felt or carbonized fiber. Unlike fiberglass, PANOX fiber is inherently flame resistant at the molecular level rather than through surface treatment, meaning its flame resistance does not degrade with use. It is also significantly softer and less irritating than fiberglass, making it comfortable to handle without protective clothing.
