Red Spark™ Silicone Coated Fiberglass Welding Blankets

Steel Guard Safety's Red Spark™ Silicone Coated Fiberglass Welding Blankets are the heavy-duty choice for welding environments with medium to heavy sparks, grinding operations, arc gouging, and areas with molten splash exposure. At 32 oz per square yard, the silicone coating delivers superior flexibility, abrasion resistance, and protection against molten splash compared to acrylic coated or uncoated fiberglass alternatives. Use vertically as a welding curtain for heavy spark containment or lay flat as a protective blanket in high-impact welding and fabrication zones. Made in the USA.

Important: Not for Heat Treating or Stress Relief

Red Spark silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets are designed for active welding, grinding, and spark/spatter containment. They are not suitable for heat treating, furnace work, or stress relief applications. For those applications, see our Silica Welding Blankets rated for heat treating up to 1800°F.

Ideal for uses in:
• Welding vertically (as a curtain) — general welding with light to medium sparks
• Welding horizontally (as a blanket) — general welding with medium sparks
• Grinding and arc gouging
• Barrier protection in molten splash and heavy abrasion areas
• Made in the USA

Details:
• Sewn & hemmed with high-heat fiberglass thread
• #2 brass grommets punched on 2' centers on all four sides
• 32 oz per square yard silicone coated fiberglass

Frequently Asked Questions — Silicone Coated Fiberglass Welding Blankets

What makes silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets different from acrylic coated?

Silicone coated fiberglass provides superior flexibility, higher abrasion resistance, and better protection against molten splash compared to acrylic coated fiberglass. The silicone coating handles medium to heavy duty sparks, grinding, and arc gouging where acrylic coated blankets are rated for light to medium stick welding protection only. The silicone coating also maintains its flexibility at temperature extremes — the blanket stays pliable and easy to handle even after extended use in high-heat environments.

Can these blankets be used for grinding and arc gouging?

Yes. The Red Spark silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets are specifically rated for grinding and arc gouging environments, as well as barrier protection in molten splash and heavy abrasion areas. This is a key differentiator from acrylic coated and uncoated fiberglass blankets which are not rated for these applications.

Can these blankets be used for heat treating or stress relief?

No. Red Spark silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets are not suitable for heat treating, furnace work, or stress relief applications. For those applications, see our Silica Welding Blankets rated for heat treating up to 1800°F.

What sizes are available?

Stock sizes are 6'x6' and 6'x8'. Custom sizes are available — call for pricing and lead time on non-standard dimensions.

How is the blanket constructed?

Sewn and hemmed with high-heat fiberglass thread. #2 brass grommets punched on 2' centers on all four sides for flexible vertical hanging or horizontal positioning.

Is bulk roll material available in this coating?

Yes. See our Red Spark Silicone Coated Fiberglass Welding Blanket Roll in 60" x 150 ft format for large-area installations and custom-cut applications.

How does the 32 oz weight compare to other blankets?

32 oz is the heaviest fiberglass-based blanket in our range — heavier than our acrylic coated (28 oz) and heat cleaned fiberglass (18 oz) options. The greater weight provides more thermal mass and more robust protection for heavy-duty welding, grinding, and molten splash environments.

What other welding blanket options do you carry?

We carry carbon fiber felt, heat cleaned fiberglass, silica, acrylic coated fiberglass, and aluminized fiberglass welding blankets and rolls. Browse the full Welding Blankets & Rolls collection for all options.
