Every valve, flange, and fitting in a hot line is a gap in your insulation. Bare metal bleeds heat, drives up fuel cost, and gets hot enough to burn anyone who brushes against it — and unlike the pipe around it, those components can't be permanently insulated, because they have to stay accessible for operation, inspection, and repair. A removable insulation jacket — also called a removable insulation cover or blanket — closes that gap: it insulates the component like the rest of the line, and it comes off in minutes with no cutting and no re-insulation cost.

What These Cover

Standard configurations are built for the serviceable components that make up most of a plant's insulation gaps:

  • Gate valves — the most common removable-jacket application
  • Globe, ball, butterfly, check, and plug valves
  • Flange pairs — raised-face and flat-face
  • Unions, strainers, and in-line fittings

Why Removable Instead of Permanent

Access without destruction. A permanently insulated valve has to be cut open every time it's serviced, then re-insulated by a contractor. A removable jacket releases with pull cords and lacing, comes off in minutes, and goes right back on when the work is done. Over the life of the plant that's the difference between a recurring contractor cost and a one-time purchase.

Energy that's leaving through bare metal. An uninsulated valve loses heat out of proportion to its size — a bare 6-inch gate valve exposes roughly the same surface area as four feet of 6-inch pipe. On steam and hot process service the recovered energy typically pays for the jacket within a heating season, though your actual figure depends on service temperature, run hours, and fuel cost.

Burn protection for your people. Bare steam and process components routinely run hot enough to cause contact burns. ASTM C1055 defines the surface temperature at which brief skin contact causes injury — a widely used design target for personnel protection. A jacket brings touch temperature down while keeping the component fully serviceable.

How to Order — You Don't Measure the Component

This is the part that makes online ordering work for a technical product: you don't measure a standard component, you identify it. For a valve, that's valve type, nominal pipe size, and pressure class; for a flange, it's nominal pipe size and pressure class. That information is already on the valve tag, the P&ID, or the equipment spec sheet.

Those three values fix the valve's dimensions through published standards (ASME B16.10 governs face-to-face length, B16.5 governs flange dimensions), which is exactly why a "6-inch 150# gate valve jacket" is a defined, repeatable product rather than a custom job. Each jacket is cut oversize to overlap onto the adjacent pipe insulation, so there's no cold gap at the seam, and the drawstring closures absorb minor dimensional variation.

Non-Standard Valves and Equipment

Pumps, heat exchangers, pressure reducing stations, control valves, strainers, and any component with unusual geometry are built to your measurements.
