Steel Guard Safety's 1 lb per square foot non-reinforced mass loaded vinyl (MLV) sound barrier is a flexible, high-density acoustic barrier material designed to block sound transmission through walls, floors, ceilings, ductwork, and pipe assemblies. Made in the USA from barium sulfate, this MLV carries an STC 26 rating and installs directly against any surface without adding significant bulk to the assembly.

What is Mass Loaded Vinyl

Mass loaded vinyl works by adding limp mass to a surface — stopping sound waves from passing through by converting their energy into negligible amounts of heat. Unlike rigid sound barriers, MLV's flexible nature allows it to conform to irregular surfaces, wrap around pipes and ducts, and integrate into wall assemblies between drywall layers. It can also be used alongside acoustic blankets and sound curtains for combined absorption and blocking performance.
