That approach has two problems. The patch only reports a leak that has already tracked to that specific spot, and it requires the shield fabric to be deliberately porous so fluid can get there.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWe build ours so you can see the joint instead. The PVC guard is translucent across the full body. The PTFE guard carries a clear FEP inspection band. Sulfuric, hydrochloric, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite and similar media are the reason this product exists.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePTFE is the safe specification for aggressive service — it is chemically inert across effectively the full pH range, and it does not degrade with prolonged exposure. PVC handles most common acids, salts and alkalis at ambient temperature and is a sound choice for dilute service and water treatment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIf you are unsure whether your media is within range for PVC, specify PTFE.
